Power of Forests Event–Sept 14

Power of Forests Event–Sept 14

PURPOSE. The goal of this event is to bring together diverse partners to ensure BC’s public and private forest lands are protected by a new Forest Law, so that nature’s needs such as biodiversity, ecosystem function (including the provision of quality water), wildlife habitat, and climate mitigation are prioritized over corporate interests. With the massive loss of forest cover due to industrial forestry, communities are at risk. We’re facing more drought, fire, and floods. The proposed new Forest Act is intended to prevent watersheds from becoming further degraded from industrial forestry.

OUTCOMES. The event will empower, equip, and activate people to push politicians into supporting a significant change to BC Forest legislation. Details of the new Forest Act proposal will be shared at the event by Jennifer Houghton, the Power of Forests Project Manager.

LOCATION. Nanaimo. Beban Park Social Centre, 2300 Bowen Road, 12-5 pm Saturday, September 14, 2024
